Our Lady of Perpetual Help

To Jesus through Mary! Happy feast of Our Lady of Perpetual Help! We hope you are enjoying these long summer days. We’ve been grilling and swimming and enjoying the great outdoors quite a bit lately and it feels so good!

If there’s one thing we have tried to do less of lately, it’s getting bogged down by the news. Obviously, we like to stay informed, but we also like our sanity and some of the headlines these days can be peace-stealing. Quite honestly, we wouldn’t mind sticking our heads in the sand and waiting for all the craziness to “just blow over.” However, as disciples of Christ, we know that’s not what He would have us do.

So, how are we supposed to be followers of Jesus in these wild and weird times? That’s what we’re going to talk about today! Luckily, the readings for this Sunday’s Mass have a lot to say about this topic as well!

So, without further ado, let’s get into this!

Two Saints for This Moment
Overwhelmed. That might be one of the best words to describe our feelings about all that is happening in our country and world right now. “What is happening to us?!” has been thought and spoken and written many times over these past few months. As Catholics, we are asking questions like, “What should I do? Do I have a role in any of this?” This past week we wrote an article for the Marian Center on this very topic. Thankfully, the answer is quite simple. Check out Two Saints for This Moment!

Counting Our Blessings
With all the negativity in the world right now, it can be hard not to see all the good things. How can you remedy this? It’s as simple as counting your blessings. To read about how to overcome anxiety in a simple way, head over to the National Catholic Register.

Marian Minute
As we said earlier, today is the Feast Day of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. We both have a great devotion to Our Lady of Perpetual Help and have prayed many novenas to Our Lady under this title. In fact, Lori remembers her mother, Barbara, telling the story of how she prayed a novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help to find her spouse- Bob. So, the summer after Barbara had died, Lori prayed the novena. During this novena, she met her future husband, Joshua, and the rest is history. Nifty News
We are almost to the end of June, the month dedicated in a special way to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Our Lord has been depicted in numerous works of art over the years and we’d like to share some of these images of the Sacred Heart from around Rome.

Liturgical Living
On June 29, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the martyrdom of Saints Peter and Paul. Catholic Culture has a wonderful biography and some history on these saints along with ways to celebrate their feast day in your home.

We’d like to share a super cute idea that we did with the kids who came to the Marian Center’s Summer Camp last year. We made these Marian Shrines and they were a big hit with everyone. You could use any image of Our Lady that you’d like, including Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

Marian Center Update
The exhibit on Marian Apparitions is open to the public! We are open for our full schedule from Tuesday-Saturday, 10 to 4. Hope to see you soon!
