Tom Monaghan's Law School

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

I called it "Tom Monaghan's Law School" for a reason. I don't think it's fair to call it Ave Maria School of Law anymore.

Law professor Steve Safranek, father of 7, was the man who had the idea of Ave Maria Law. He drew up the plans, got other professors on board, and presented the idea to Tom Monaghan.

Now Tom is moving the law school down to Florida and he has fired Steve Safranek.

To mediate the differences, Notre Dame law professor Charlie Rice wrote the following letter. You can tell that Charlie Rice is deeply worried over Ave Maria Tom Monaghan's Law School.

Monastery to mark Fr. Solanus anniversary

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

Venerable Solanus CaseyJuly 31 is the 50th anniversary of the death of Venerable Solanus Casey, OFM Cap, who for years served as the porter of Detroit's St. Bonaventure Monastery. In 1995, Pope John Paul II declared Fr. Solanus to be venerable—the first of three steps in the process of canonization.

A litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary, special prayers for the beatification of Fr. Solanus—the next step in the canonization process, will be offered at the 12:15 p.m. weekday Masses.

Special Masses will be celebrated on Sunday, July 29, at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Bishop Leonard Blair of Toledo will celebrate the 11 a.m. Mass and Detroit Auxiliary Bishop Francis Reiss will celebrate the 1:30 p.m. Mass.
